GREY / FALL 04

Pure / Faux / Fake
Wool - one of the most common textile used across the clothing industry, while in some countries, there's protection on how you retrieve them but of course some don't - only until recently PETA have speak up about Merino Wool from Australia and others wollen products (aka Ugg Boots which is made from Sheep's Skin directly with fur intact - meaning actual skinning the animal alive).

GREY / FALL 03: Challenge Media Control and Overhaul

Past week saw the opening of The Fifth Estate, a controversial movie based briefly on the foundation of WikiLeaks with focus upon Julian Assange himself, produced by Dreamworks and in collaboration with Disney. Negative perspective upon the matter can be seen throughout the 2hr8mins movie, with majority of critics giving the film less than 4 stars rating (imdb rating currently stands at 5.3/10)
On 18 September 2013, WikiLeaks released a mature version of the script to public because the film "was, in WikiLeaks perspective, irresponsible, counterproductive, and harmful." Furthermore, last Friday (11th Oct 2013), WikiLeaks released their own movie named: "Mediastan - A WikiLeaks Road Movie" and made available for free in the UK collide with The Fifth Estate's opening weekend.

"For the first time ever, audiences get a behind-the-scenes insight into the world’s first truly global media event: "Operation Cablerun" : the 2011 operation during which WikiLeaks ran hundreds of thousands of secret US government cables to media outlets around the world.
In MEDIASTAN, an undercover team of journalists drives across the central Asian republics of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and into US occupied Afghanistan, before continuing its journey into the west; regrouping in Julian Assange’s kitchen, ambushing the editor of the Guardian, and obtaining candid footage of the New York Times editor and its publisher Arthur Sulzberger speaking about Obama.
Julian Assange, explaining why he produced the film stated, “Central Asia is the most fascinating geopolitical region in the world. It is the cream in the geopolitical layer cake. On the top, Russia, on the bottom, China; in the middle, a fight for US influence" But, Mr. Assange explained, "what started out as a geopolitical road movie transformed into a tale of comparative censorship as our adventure continued into the unexpected heart of MEDIASTAN."
Following a trail of censorship and media collusion with power eventually takes them to the London Guardian and the New York Times.
The Guardian’s editor Alan Rusbridger, questioned by Assange, talks about how the Guardian censored US cables about rich kleptocrats and western oil companies.
New York Times editor Bill Keller unknowingly talks about the Times’ daily telephone calls with the US government, his decision to conceal the NSA’s mass surveillance program and the newspaper’s ’favourite subject’—WikiLeaks.
MEDIASTAN director Johannes Wahlström explained "Mediastan is not so much a physical place as it is a state of mind among many of the journalists and editors who form our perceptions of the world."
Producer Julian Assange said: "This is journalism in extremis. This is how it is done. This weekend, instead of wasting your time and money on Hollywood propaganda, why not get all your friends around and spend your time watching MEDIASTAN instead?"

Video on Demand is available globally http://jman.tv/store?p=5104.
MEDIASTAN was directed by Johannes Wahlström and produced by Julian Assange with Rebecca O’Brien and Lauren Dark at Sixteen Films. It is being distributed by Journeyman Pictures.

What's your view? Grey / Fall continues.

GREY/FALL 01

The objectification of women and bias sexism.

In contrast to BLCK / SUMR's extremism with consumerism and straight-forward facts (If you have missed our 7-part series, click on the Archive tab above) , GREY / FALL series investigate the humanity's stereotypes, and perceptions.
There will be an interval within the next few weeks for Fashion Weeks coverage.

If you happens to be a fan of the popular culture, 'Blurred Line' must have came across your path more than once within the past months as a smashing hit on the radio, clubs and guest-houses. The video caused lots of controversy upon its sexism and objectification of women, yet the description of 'artistic integrity' had let the point bypass the mind. This can be seen live in front of lots of minors in the fiasco of Robin Thicke and Miley Cyrus performed the song in the VMA earlier this month.

Individuals have created petition to ask YouTube to remove or ban the video from showing across the internet, See here. LINK
Recently, a parody of 'Defined Lines' by students in Auckland University's Law division has been removed for inappropriate content. The video speaks the exact reverse of what 'Blurred Line' constitute for, even its imagery with reversed roles (naked men while the womens fully clothed). The catchy parody raises awareness upon sex crimes, women exploitation, equality, misogyny.
The video has been re-uploaded from various users, check it out below.

Girls, fight for your equality, power to get men on leash, or not afraid to grab men's behind when you feel like it.

Discrimination upon ourselves

"Infamous Russian ultranationalist Maxim Martsinkevich, known under the nickname "Cleaver" (or "Tesak" in Russian) spearheaded a country wide campaign against LGBT teens using a popular social network VK.com to lure unsuspected victims through personal ads. Mr. Martsinkevich's numerous and enthusiastic followers started two projects: "Occupy Pedophilyaj" and "Occupy Gerontilyaj".  Allegedly they are trying to identify and report pedophiles using these "movements". In reality, over 500 online groups have been created inside VK.com social network in order to organize illegal militant groups in every Russian city. Oddly enough their idea of fighting pedophiles targets exclusively male teenagers who respond to the same-sex personal ads and show up for a date. Captured victims are bullied and often tortured while being recorded on video.  These self-proclaimed "crime fighters" perform their actions under the broad day light, often outside and clearly visible to general public that indifferently passes by or even commend them. Video recordings of bullying and tortures are freely distributed on the Internet in order to out LGBT teens to their respective schools, parents and friends. Many victims were driven to suicides, the rest are deeply traumatised. So far Russian police took no action against these "movements" even though Russian criminal code was clearly violated and despite numerous complaints from parents, victims and LGBT activists.  Social network VK.com intermittently shuts down selected groups and profiles only to allow them to be re-open on the next day. Currently, the founder of VK.com, Pavel Durov, resides in the US and so far has not released any comments.

BLCK / SUMR 04

Today, an internal North Korean film about Western Propaganda has leaked into the worldwide web, causing lots of discussions. The film itself lasts 1 hour 40 minutes, which originally targeted to the citizens within North Korea, mentioning and discussing about western's capitalism, imperialism, mass manipulation of culture for purpose of com-modification, and how it permeates every aspects of our lives to be blissfully ignorant, borderline zombie masses. It is scarily accurate, and couldn't have came on time for our Black Summer series here at WestFASHION Your Life.

It's all about tactics: 1. to Distract; 2. to Misinform; 3. to Anaesthetise the brain.
With: the fear of religion, the 1% of population, desire to be, attitude of "achieve without achieving".

Also, the documentary contains very disturbing imagery (Slavery, documentaries) , and extreme violence (killing, suicides), so please do prepare yourself.

Before you start, I personally would like you to switch this mindset of, this film was made in a backward nation, with human rights issues raised by Amnesty International recently, and threats of nuclear war between the peninsular; therefore think about the advance in their society thoughts upon ours.

I have picked the best controversial part within the film for your attention, and to your will, if you would like to see the full documentary film, with sections about Fears and Illusions/ Religion /  Ideas / Bewares of 1% / Rewriting History /  Cover-ups and Omissions / Complicity / Censorship / TV / Advertising / International Diplomacy / Terrorism / The End, click HERE.

Prelude.

An introduction into Issue 8 - Industrial Fetish and beyond...
Madness always starts from within,
tackling extremism is like tackling the deepest page of human's heart.
But what trigger the change?
Lifestyle? "Thinking too much"? Influence?
The step 01 of all.
BLCK / SUMR 02

"Who is the master? and who is the slave? Get up! It's time! ... it's time for you to read the signs... how high are the stakes? How much fortune can  you make? Nothing lasts forever? Should you carry on? Will it matter when you're gone? Was it all worth it?"

Spring Summer 2014 PREDICTIONS

Although the 2013 summer hasn't even arrive yet here in London, but we're all talking about 2014's summer already, even few bits of 2015.
These predictions are pure predictions, just me and myself projecting what I think what people would say or come down the catwalk in about a month time for men, 3 months for women. I might revise this along the way.

01 MEN: 60s Gangster...
Followed after the flared trousers trend in AW13, SS14 should be seeing quite a lot of reflection upon its double-breasted jackets with flared / paper-bag fit (JW Anderson AW11) featuring pleats or flat front. This trend might come along in various colours and fabrics/texture due to the season, but a strong sense will also remains due to the recent Korean Peninsula which I think a lot of designers might refer to with a little bit of military elements.
Reference? See: Lanvin x Acne Jeans for SS08 / Bottega Venetta SS09

02 MEN/WOMEN: 70s Floral Revival...
The classic floral shirts never been a fad to both genders. Classic Poplin printed shirt for men for a touch of femininity, Silk Floral fitted shirt for women with a twist for a touch of individuality.
All-over printed / a section printed have been seen across retailers this summer (Uniqlo SS13), but I predict it won't go on trend or mentionable until next summer as this summer linen blazers have already taken its tolls round the high street.

MORE TRENDS COMING UP, stay tuned!

All about "The Moving Image"

The fashion film movement came along during the recession to replace the expensive runway shows, but then also escalated to using so as a surprising campaign such as Calvin Klein Underwear's Superbowl ad and Versace for H&M headlining some mainstream TV and online video sites.
Just recently, the format of the fashion film have been transformed or could say being elevated to a new level - an experience or per se a reflection of our daily life instead of just a "wind-blowing in the hair" or "model walking down the street, looking normal like you do"
Firstly Calvin Klein is no new to the provocative description with their advertisement, this new film that released is no different except that it had divided into a part of 200 clips all featuring three different Calvin Klein sub-brands (ck / Collection / Jeans), to make the film more suggestive, it also features a Fabien Baron's vision of minimalist eroticism - Starring Alexander Skarsgard and Suvi Koponen.

Secondly, Lanvin famously made an in-joke by releasing their campaign film using "I Know You Want Me" as its background music and featuring model dancing to it. This time, it features Alber Elbaz himself via Skype, making commentary about the campaign video - bringing character, humour to it - only Alber Elbaz.

Butter vs. Margarine

Last 24 hours of 2012, while the most of lovelies from WestFASHION HQ are on holiday, you got me here, and I would like to share an article with you, not-fashion-related at all, but remember that WestFASHION Your Life is here for anything about the life that I and you lives in.
So, its all about food. Butter & Margarine.

"Margarine was originally manufactured to fatten turkeys. When it killed the turkeys, the people who had put all the money into the research wanted a payback so they put their heads together to figure out what to do with this product to get their money back.

It was a white substance with no food appeal so they added the yellow colouring and sold it to people to use in place of butter. How do you like it? They have come out with some clever new flavourings.

They both have the same amount of calories. Butter is slightly higher in saturated fats at 8 grams; compared to 5 grams for margarine. Eating margarine can increase heart disease in women by 53% over eating the same amount of butter, according to a recent Harvard Medical Study. Eating butter increases the absorption of many other nutrients in other foods. Butter has many nutritional benefits where margarine has a few and only because they are added!

Butter tastes much better than margarine and it can enhance the flavours of other foods. Butter has been around for centuries where margarine has been around for less than 100 years. For margarine, very high in Trans-fatty-acids + triples risk of coronary heart disease + increases total cholesterol and LDL (this is the bad cholesterol) and lowers HDL cholesterol, (the good cholesterol) + increases the risk of cancers up to five times + lowers quality of breast milk + decreases immune response + decreases insulin response. And here's the most disturbing fact...

Margarine is but one molecule away from being plastic... and shares 27 ingredients with paint. These facts alone were enough to have me avoiding margarine for life and anything else that is hydrogenated (this means hydrogen is added, changing the molecular structure of the substance).

Open a tub of margarine and leave it open in your garage or shaded area. Within a couple of days you will notice a couple of things:
- No flies, not even those pesky fruit flies will go near it (that should tell you something)
- It does not rot or smell differently because it has no nutritional value ; nothing will grow on it. Even those teeny weeny microorganisms will not a find a home to grow.

Why? Because it is nearly plastic . Would you melt your Tupperware and spread that on your toast?"

What a surprising found isn't it? so called the better food is actually worse the not-so-good food.

The more natural the better life is - little rule WestFASHION works by too on all-we-do.

Happy New Year, readers! Stay in touch throughout 2013.
